About Amber

Tough, compelling and charismatic – these words describe Amber in her dynamic practice as a planning and development lawyer at the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB).

Having always had a flair for the dramatic, Amber started acting lessons at a young age. She was always argumentative and stubborn. Her eighth grade French teacher swore that if she was not a lawyer in 20 years, he would kill himself! To pre-empt his untimely demise, Amber succumbed to her inevitable destiny.

But before going to law school at University of Western Ontario, Amber explored the world on many adventures. Her travels in France fostered a love of cheese, fine wine, and languages (she obtained a B.A. in French). She lived in British Columbia, enjoyed mountain biking at Whistler and scuba diving in the Pacific. She has island-hopped in Greece and trekked the Inca Trail in Peru.   She has been bloodied in battle on the rugby field, and lived to tell the tales. These days, Amber’s adventures revolve around her family – husband (Gary), stepkids (Cassandra, Christian, and Cameron), and daughters (Malaya and Emme) – and, of course, her work.

Amber loves the excitement of development and the thrill of seeing her projects from the approvals stage through to construction. After working for almost eight years at a top planning boutique firm, she decided to throw caution to the wind and start her own practice.   Amber appears frequently before the OMB on matters that involve diverse and complicated planning, development, and implementation issues:

  • Minor variance applications
  • Consent (severance) applications
  • Draft plan of subdivision
  • Rezoning applications
  • Official plan appeals and official plan amendment applications
  • Employment lands conversions
  • Site plan applications and agreements
  • Section 37 agreements
  • Heritage issues
  • Ravine and urban forestry issues
  • Conservation authority permits

Not always gentle, but always with a smile, Amber gives honest advice to builders and developers. She uses a practical, solutions-based approach to make their vision a reality. Amber has extensive experience managing difficult cases and adapting as necessary. She is a formidable advocate, who will fearlessly defend your interests and help you achieve your approvals.
